Add Circle ID as a passkey on a website

Once you have the Circle ID Extension installed and the Circle ID app set up on your phone, you can register Circle ID as a passkey on any website that supports passkeys.

General steps

Every website puts the passkey setting in a slightly different place, but the overall flow is the same:

  1. Sign in to the website with your existing password or sign-in method.
  2. Find the passkey or security key setting. It's usually under account settings, security, or sign-in options. Look for words like "passkey," "security key," or "two-step verification."
  3. Start adding a passkey. Click the button the site provides (for example, "Add a passkey" or "Register security key").
  4. Scan the QR code. Your browser shows a QR code. Open the Circle ID app on your phone and scan it.
  5. Approve on your phone. The app asks you to confirm. Tap Approve (or use biometrics if prompted).
  6. Done. The website confirms that your passkey has been saved. From now on, you can sign in with Circle ID.

Note

The QR code appears on your desktop screen, and you scan it with your phone. You don't need the phone and the computer to be on the same network.

Tips

  • Make sure the Circle ID Extension icon shows ON before you start. If it shows OFF or ERR, click it and follow the instructions.
  • If the QR code times out, refresh the page and try again.
  • Some websites call passkeys "security keys" — the process is the same.
  • If the website doesn't offer a passkey or security key option, it may not support passkeys yet. Check our tested sites for specific instructions.
