What the extension's badges mean

The Circle ID Extension shows a badge on its toolbar icon to tell you its current status.

ON

The extension is active and handling passkey requests. When a website asks for a passkey, the Circle ID Extension will respond with a QR code for your phone.

This is the normal state. You don't need to do anything.

ERR (red)

The extension has detected a conflict with another extension. Another browser extension is also trying to handle passkey requests, and the two are interfering with each other.

To fix it:

  1. Click the Circle ID Extension icon.
  2. The popup tells you which extension is conflicting.
  3. Disable the other extension, or disable the Circle ID Extension if you want to use the other one instead.

Common extensions that can conflict include other passkey managers, password managers with passkey support, and security key extensions.

Disable / Enable button

When you click the Circle ID Extension icon, the popup includes a Disable or Enable button.

  • Disable: Turns the extension off. Passkey requests go back to your browser's built-in handler (Google Password Manager, Windows Hello, and so on). Use this when you need your other passkeys. See my other passkeys stopped working.
  • Enable: Turns the extension back on. Passkey requests are handled by Circle ID again.

Tip

You don't need to uninstall the extension to use other passkeys. Just click Disable, do what you need, and click Enable when you're ready to use Circle ID again.
