My other passkeys stopped working¶
This is one of the most common questions we get, and it has a simple explanation.
Why it happens¶
While the Circle ID Extension is ON, it handles every passkey request in Chrome, Edge, and Brave. The browser sends all passkey prompts to the extension instead of to its built-in passkey handler.
That means passkeys stored in any of these services won't work while the extension is active:
- Google Password Manager (saved passkeys in Chrome)
- 1Password, Bitwarden, Dashlane, or other password managers with passkey support
- Windows Hello (PIN, fingerprint, or facial recognition)
- iCloud Keychain (on macOS with Chrome or Edge)
- Physical security keys (YubiKey, Titan, and similar)
This is by design. The browser can only route passkey requests to one handler at a time, and when the Circle ID Extension is on, it's that handler.
How to use your other passkeys¶
- Click the Circle ID Extension icon in your toolbar.
- Click Disable.
- The badge disappears (or shows OFF). Passkey requests now go to your browser's built-in handler.
- Use your other passkeys as usual.
- When you're done, click the Circle ID Extension icon again and click Enable to switch back.
Tip
You don't need to uninstall or reinstall anything. Disabling and enabling is instant.
Example¶
Say you use Google Password Manager for your Gmail passkey and Circle ID for Zoom:
- Signing in to Zoom: Make sure the extension is ON. Scan the QR code with your phone.
- Signing in to Gmail: Click the extension icon, click Disable. Sign in with your Google Password Manager passkey. Afterward, click Enable to turn Circle ID back on.
